Scratching My Head: Marriage

Is it possible to have a realistic love nowadays?

Well, it's only common to hear some love stories such as a happily-ever-after or love-at-the-first-sight rather than stories like "O, I've known him for quite a while before we tried dating then became boyfriend-girlfriend bla bla bla.."

Sure, it's more exciting and lovely if we do have that kind of dream-like love story. But not here, not in this world we're living. In movies, yes maybe. But we really need to open our eyes and see the reality, no?

Course, there's always that couple who's so perfect even from the first time they met. They fell in love, they got married, have family, without any difficulty in life because their parents have prepared enough wealth for 7 generations. But are they really perfect? Really?

Let's see.. this is basically our journey in finding 'love':
You meet a handsome guy/pretty girl.
You got to know him/her more.
You like him/her.
Your love got reciprocated so you're a couple now.
You have lots of dates.
You proposed/accepted the proposal.
You get married.

Okay.. this is where the dream-like love story usually end in the movie "And they live happily ever after." No. They're not.
After you got married, there's something called MARRIAGE. And this is what cause problems.

You need to take some loans for house, car and daily needs.
You got pregnant.
You need to sell some of your stuff to pay for the pregnancy and labor.
You have a kid (or kids).
You need to sell some more of your stuff or work harder to pay for your kids' education and needs.

Now, this is where some people will tell you that you are neglecting your family because of money.

You work your ass off but it seems never enough.
Somehow the kids are now up for college.
You worry if your kids will be alright, if they have been properly educated and got manners.

If you're lucky, your kids will be the one who got a scholarship or graduate on time.
If not, then.. this is where you got stressed out.

You need to think what you have to pay for their next semester fee.
It's been years since you've gone traveling or buy some things that you like.
But you can't. Cause it's all for the kids now.

Kids graduated and some come back home, some are not.
Most kids never think of you but only think about their own life.
Kids who came back home still spent your money and never even offered to split or pay for the living cost.

After all this, you realized that you're too old to do anything.
So you continue working until you retired.
Then your kids got married, have their own family.
Suddenly you're their babysitter and home-keeper.

(And if you raised your kids well, they will take care of you. If not, well.. too bad. It's life. You better have your savings then.)

THE END

See? It's not exactly a happily ever after, right? Can you imagine Cinderella doing all this? No? Of course not, she lives in a freakin' castle (and of course she's only a cartoon character).

SO (all this actually only to make this point clear),
Is it wrong to think BEFORE actually getting married?
Is it wrong to try to foresee the unimaginable future life we'll have after marriage based on current facts?
Is it wrong to really know your partner before deciding to spend the rest of your life with them?
Is it wrong to not rush and take a good long time to just lay everything out and see if you both are prepared for what it may come before putting a ring on it?

Noisy people always say these:
"Look at your age." (What about it?)
"It's too long already." (We don't have problem with time, so why should you?)
"Your parents want a grandchild." (Who are you to tell us what our parents want?)
"Don't think too much about it, just go with it and let it flow." (If we end up dead because we don't have any money to eat, do you want to take responsibility?)

Up until now, I really haven't seen a perfect marriage without boundaries what-so-ever. Be that with their spouse, their parents-in-law, their siblings-in-law, their own parents, or even their kids. Especially those who keep asking about "when will you get married?". I've come to conclusion that this people are actually the ones who have troubled marriages and want you to join their misery.

I always say this to people, "You can tell me to get married if your marriage is perfect. If not, don't even ask about it."
This is no fairytale. This is real life. Why throw my life just because people are telling me to?

After all, we all need to have a reality check every now and then right?
Have you?
